Terrace Talk - October 2008 2008 Election Update The Jennings Terrace Activity Staff will be contacting residents on an individual basis to complete all the necessary paperwork required for the 2008 Presidential election. The residents of Jennings vote by way of absentee ballot. The board of Elections will have a polling place located in the Sheltered Care Chapel on a date yet to be announced. Activity staff will be available to transport Annex residents to Sheltered Care and assist those with special needs. Halloween Happenings Once again residents and staff will be looking forward to the annual Halloween visit from Krug School children. The exact time for their visit on Friday, October 31st, has not been determined, but the time will be posted as soon as the plans are made. Jennings staff members will once again be encouraged to dress for the occasion. The Jennings Annex will be hosting the 2nd Annual Spirit Week from October 27-31. Monday is Funny Sock/Wear Orange Day, Tuesday is Fashion Disaster Day, Wednesday is Sports Day, Thursday is Hat Day and Friday is Halloween costume Day. If anyone has bits or pieces left over from past Halloween costumes, Jennings can put them to good use dressing up the residents for the party and parade. Please drop off any donations at the Annex Activity Office. A Big Thanks to: The Jennings Terrace Auxiliary for the Fall Party and musical entertainment by Al Schubert on September 24th. The Animal Care Hospital on Rt. 34 in Oswego, for their compassionate care of “Jeep”, the Sheltered Care parakeet. We also would like to thank Maria Cabral for her donation of a new parakeet as well as Craig Allen, owner of The Dog Patch of Naperville, for his donation of a parakeet. Both parakeets are getting along quite nicely. There will be a contest for the residents to name our new friends. Our appreciation also goes to Mike Schomer and Jennings staff members, Maryanne Lorang and Molly Grimm for the valuable part they played with the Dog Patch parakeet. Laurie Sears for the floor puzzle, Beth Fisher for the mini-refrigerator, Laverne Spera for art supplies, Elois Sadler for lap blankets and an anonymous donation of dozens of skeins of yarn. Patricia Cunningham and husband, Clyde for their very special wedding re-enactment and reception held at Jennings Terrace for her mother and Jennings Terrace resident, Ruth Fruehling. Ruth was unable to attend their June wedding, so the couple carried out a complete wedding and reception on site at Jennings on Saturday, September 27th. Jennings staff member, Francis Laity, presided over the service with bride and groom in their gown and tux. Residents and staff members enjoyed wedding cake, candy favors and bubbles to toast the newlyweds. Thanks also goes out to staff members, Kim Schiltz and Regina Davis who oversaw the festivities and Ruthie Ross who assisted Ruth in getting ready for her daughter’s wedding. October Special Events
